1. Cookies

Q2.1 What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small amount of text. Usually webservers send cookies to the web browsers. But web browsers can also create cookies by themselves. Cookies are stored in the PC where the browser runs.
When the browser loads a webpage from the same web server next time, it will give back the cookie that was set in the previous visit to that website. Using this mechanism, cookies can be used to:

  • Set user specific personal preferences for a website's behavior/appearance, etc.
  • Web servers can monitor a user's behavior through their website, allowing them to optimize their site for that specific user. (For ex.: If you search some books on amazon.com, the next time you visit their site, amazon can display a list of books related to your search during the previous visit.

These are some reasons why cookies are very useful.

Q2.2 Why does the SudokuSplashZone webpage say that my browser has cookies disabled?

Simply because your browser has disabled cookie creation and acceptance :-)
To find out how you can enable/disable cookies on your browser, see Q2.5.

Q2.3 For me to use SudokuSplashZone, do cookies need to be enabled?

The SudokuSplashZone will mostly work fine without cookies. However, some features may get disabled without them. For example, to save your game options and such other user preferences, the SudokuSplashZone uses cookies.
Disabling cookies may result in, for instance, game options getting reset everytime you reload a new game, or when you return to SudokuSplashZone after closing your browser.

Q2.4 What if I do not want to enable cookies?

You should still be able to use SudokuSplashZone. At worst, you may have to endure a small inconveniece due to some features getting disabled. If you aren't comfortable with enabling cookies, DON'T.
Also, see Q2.3.

NOTE: Enabling cookies may potentially compromise your privacy and/or security on the Internet. Although SudokuSplashZone does not collect any personally identifiable information from our users, other sites may do so.
Contact your system administrator if possible, and use caution while cookies are enabled on your browser.
